The Dachshund is a long, low bodied dog created to crawl into a burrow to hunt. This breed's unique appearance and cheerful nature have made it a popular companion and watchdog. Their coat comes in three variations, smooth, long and wire-haired. Male Miniature Dachshund can grow upto 8 to 9 inches in length and ideal weight would be 11 pounds with a healthy diet (standard . Female Miniature Dachshund can grow upto 7 to 8 inches in length and should also maintain a healthy weight of 11 pounds. Standard Dachshund should weight around 16 to 32 pounds.

Care

The smooth-haired Dachshund has little body odor and is easy to care for, an occasional but thorough rub down of the whole body with a damp mircofiber cloth should suffice. The long haired Dachshund needs to be brushed daily.

Dachshunds are best for loving pet parents who don't have other pets or small children. With moderate levels of energy, they'd love to take a relaxing walk with you every day. They're intelligent and brave, so they'll thrive if they get mental challenges through puzzle games or scent-tracking sports. Avoiding jumping from high surfaces such as beds and chairs is a must to avoid long term damage to their long backs.
